As with the previous ESM, the data for the study was generated by national startup associations and network partners, using their well established networks to circulate the online survey within the national startup ecosystem to create meaningful findings. The 2nd ESM was able to increase its number of network partners and its data base. In the ESM 2016, more than 2,500 startups were surveyed representing more than 6,300 founders and over 23,000 employees. The comparable data on the various European startup ecosystems was analysed in cooperation with startup-representatives of 17 different European Countries and Israel.
