520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. On 14 September 2016, the Commission launched the 5G Action Plan to boost EU efforts for the deployment of 5G infrastructures and services across the Digital Single Market by 2020. The action plan set out a clear roadmap for public and private investment on 5G infrastructure in the EU. The European 5G Observatory provides updates on all market developments in EU-28, including actions undertaken by the private and public sectors, in the field of 5G. It also presents an analysis of the strategic implications of the 5G Action Plan and other public policy objectives. European mobile operators have been working for two years with equipment manufacturers and vertical players on various trials in order to validate 5G’s capabilities. In the coming months, they will prepare the deployment phase and will be able to perform tests in “real” conditions as the first 5G smartphones are expected to be available early next year
